Old Kakheti - Saperavi
75cl | 12% | Old Kakheti
Description
Origin: Produced from Saperavi grapes grown in the Kakheti region of Georgia — the cradle of Georgian wine and home to the country's most celebrated red grape variety.
Grape Variety: 100% Saperavi, Georgia's flagship red grape. The name translates as "dye" or "paint" — a reference to its rare teinturier quality, meaning both the skin and the pulp are deeply pigmented, producing wines of exceptional colour and intensity.
Taste Profile: Deep, opaque dark ruby in colour. The nose is expressive and inviting, with tones of dried black plum, cherry, and sweet spices. On the palate it is harmonious and well-balanced, with moderate astringency, a complex varietal bouquet, and a satisfying, lingering finish. A quintessential Georgian red.
Details
Craftsmanship: Made from carefully selected Saperavi grapes harvested in Kakheti, vinified in the European style to highlight the variety's natural structure, fruit character, and depth. Saperavi is one of the world's few naturally dark-fleshed grape varieties, giving this wine its characteristic depth of colour and intensity without the need for blending.
Serving Suggestions: A natural companion for pork and veal mtsvadi, grilled vegetables, lobiani, and bean dishes. Also excellent with hard cheeses and hearty stews. Best served at 16–18°C to fully open up the wine's complex bouquet.
