Sekhniashvili - Mtsvane

Origin: Sekhniashvili's winemaking journey began in 1995 when Yuri Sekhniashvili returned to his ancestral land in the village of Badiauri, in the Sagarejo region of Kakheti. Driven by a lifelong dream, he set out to produce high-quality Georgian wine using traditional methods passed down through generations. Sagarejo's unique terroir is known for its high sugar content and aromatic qualities, contributing to the production of premium wines, with grapes handpicked at the optimal time. 

Grape Variety: 100% Kakhuri Mtsvane — whose name simply means "green" in Georgian, a nod to the bright hue of its berries. Originating in the Kartli and Kakheti regions of eastern Georgia, Mtsvane has been cultivated for centuries, playing a vital role in Georgian winemaking traditions, and is revered for its adaptability and resilience across diverse terroirs. 

Taste Profile: Aged on skins in Qvevri, this style of Mtsvane features toffee apple on the nose with savoury, gamey notes over a rich undertone of dried yellow fruits. Ripe, grippy tannins on the palate, with dried apricot and quince sweetness. A full, enveloping amber wine with remarkable depth and a long, memorable finish.

Craftsmanship: Crafted using traditional Qvevri winemaking techniques, fermented with the grape skins and stems, resulting in a striking amber hue and a complex flavour profile reminiscent of dried fruits, spices, and honey — a testament to Georgia's winemaking heritage. Gvinico Recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, this 8,000-year-old method gives the wine its extraordinary character and structure.

Serving Suggestions: Serve cool rather than cold (12–14°C) to allow its full aromatic complexity to unfold. A natural partner for aged and soft cheeses, roasted poultry, walnut-based Georgian dishes, spiced foods, and charcuterie.
