Origin: Khvanchkara is Georgia's most celebrated semi-sweet red wine, and Royal Khvanchkara is its most historic producer. The story begins in the 1870s when Rachan nobles Konstantine and Kaikhosro Kipiani gathered the ancient winemaking traditions of the region and began crafting their legendary wine from mountain vineyards in Ambrolauri. Their creation entered the international stage in 1907, winning the Grand Prix at the International Wine Exhibition in Ostend, Belgium — placing this remote Caucasian wine at the pinnacle of world recognition. Today, led by internationally acclaimed winemaker Lado Uzunashvili, Royal Khvanchkara honours that legacy with over 150 international medals and a reputation as the definitive producer of this extraordinary appellation.

Grape Variety: Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli — two rare, indigenous red varieties grown exclusively in the Racha region, in vineyards planted on south-west-facing slopes at 780–800 metres above sea level on the right bank of the Rioni River. These ancient varieties thrive in Racha's unique humid-subtropical mountain climate, accumulating exceptional natural sugar while preserving the bright acidity that gives Khvanchkara its famed harmony and structure.

Taste Profile: Deep, intense dark ruby with purple hues. A rich and captivating bouquet of raspberries, wild strawberries, blackberries, and crushed rose petals rises from the glass. On the palate — luscious, velvety, and perfectly poised, with natural sweetness beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity and soft tannins. The finish is long, warm, and deeply satisfying.

Craftsmanship: Naturally semi-sweet — no sugar is ever added. The wine's residual sweetness comes entirely from the grapes themselves, achieved through slow, cool fermentation halted naturally before full sugar conversion. Production is limited and tightly regulated under the Khvanchkara PDO, first registered in 1932. Every bottle from Royal Khvanchkara's 18 hectares across five Rachan villages is a true expression of one of the world's most unique wine terroirs.

Serving Suggestions: Serve at 12–14°C. A magnificent companion to aged cheeses, dark chocolate, lamb, spicy dishes, Khinkali, and rich fruit desserts. Equally sublime enjoyed on its own — this is a wine that tells a story with every sip.
